2019 - Grand Vin Château Canon Chaigneau
2019 - Grand Vin Château Canon Chaigneau
Just released! Possibly our most complete wine yet, our winemaker, Thierry Garnaud who was at Cheval Blanc for 35 vintages switched us to new French oak 500 litre barrels from Sylvain, Demptos & Taransaud. the result is stunning, a very subtle and complex grain of oak to indulge a wonderfully classic & opulent vintage. Great now, but will improve beautifully over the next 20-30 years.
‘.. impeccably made wine, the 2019 Château Canon Chaigneau sports a dense purple hue as well as a great nose of wild strawberries, darker cherries, leafy herbs, and spring flowers. Soft, supple, and just undeniably delicious, it’s a terrific buy for those looking for a great Bordeaux to drink over the coming decade.’ Jeb Dunnuck, 92
‘Ample and caressing in feel.. Dark red/black fruit, mint, spice and floral accents on the nose play off the wine's considerable richness beautifully. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and full, substantial yet focused, with flavours of black cherry, blueberries, black plums, cocoa and licorice. Time in the glass brings out its resonance and overall character. The 2019 is impeccable.’, Antonio Galloni, 91
'The 2019 Canon Chaigneau has more fruit on the nose compared to the Cuve 8A, though that is partly because it is less reduced. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fleshier than the Cuve 8A, quite substantial yet focused, with a judicious touch of white pepper on the aftertaste. Excellent.’ Neal Martin, 91
'On the nose you find espresso, leafy herbs, spice, earth and plums. Medium-bodied, fresh and spicy on the palate, with touches of olives that accompany the plums, cherries and chocolate, this will be better if allow it to rest for a year or two. Drink from 2022-2033.' Jeff Leve, 92
‘Bel équilibre du bouquet entre des nuances fruitées et des notes d’élevage. Le vin se distingue par sa finesse et par la vivacité de sa structure. Les tannins sont serrés mais bien intégrés et offrent un excellent support à l’ensemble du palais. Un vin de caractère qui mérite un peu d’épanouissement et qui assure un excellent potentiel de garde.’ Yves Beck, 92
